Olivet's online courses run in eight-week blocks, and the clock starts before the first clinical day: the drug screen has to clear two to four weeks ahead, every compliance item must be current, and some sites add their own onboarding through MyClinicalExchange. Does Olivet find preceptors for online nursing students?

Olivet asks students to start with their own personal and professional networks. On the FNP page, the SON Clinical Coordinator steps in with the school's resources after a student has made 30 unsuccessful attempts, and that site may not be in the student's preferred location. The post-graduate FNP and NEL pages describe coordinator support without a set number.

How many clinical hours does the Olivet FNP need?

750. In the new curriculum they come from four clinicals: 240 hours in adult and older adult primary care, 135 in women's health, 135 in pediatrics and 240 across the lifespan. Continuing students in the current curriculum reach the same total through six clinicals.

Can I do Olivet FNP clinicals in any state?

No. Olivet's March 2026 disclosure lists 13 states where FNP practicum hours may not be done, even for students who live in an approved state. Check the list before you contact a preceptor, and tell the Online Advising Team if you move.

When does the drug screen have to be done?

Olivet's MSN handbook says the drug screen must be cleared two to four weeks before the practicum starts, and it includes THC. Plan it alongside the rest of your compliance items so nothing holds up your first clinical day.

Where do you find Olivet preceptors?
